The Band

The first try to form a band was in the spring of 1981 under the name ANTI POLICE. The „lineup“ then was Karl on vocals & Ulf on guitar and the first song „Umweltkrank“ was written. A few weeks later two guys from the same school, Thomas (drums) and Helge (bass), were added and the name was changed to EXZESS

Kalle left the band in February 1982 for personal reasons and was replaced by Henning >> SCAPEGOATS were born.
A lot of new stuff was written and many recordings were made with bad equipment. In October 1982 drummer Thomas left the band and Karl the former singer was asked to rejoin. Karl bought a new drum set and the sound became much faster and harder. Some of the following recordings became the „Pogo Lebt“ tape.

After some problems with Helge and another bass player, Olav from KOMA A. was recruited and that led to the final 4-piece outfit in September 83: Ulf - guitar, Karl - drums, Olav - Bass, Henning - voc.. This Lineup released the „Last Attack“ tape.

Henning left the band in 1984 and SCAPEGOATS continued as a trio. Kalle took over the vocals and 2 tracks for the german compilation LP „ Let´s Have More Fun“ were recorded. The quality of these 2 songs were so bad that they were dropped from the 2nd edition.

It was time to start recording in a professional studio so the band went to Marbostel (near Hannover), were 9 tracks were recorded in only some hours. The result was quite good but it was never released on record. Only a few tracks apperared on some international compilation tapes.

In 1985 SCAPEGOATS recorded 5 tracks at the Masterplan Studio in Hildesheim that would end up on the “Kopflos EP” that was released on the new founded label called Dissonance Records. The 1st pressing were 800 copies. There is also a 2nd pressing of 300–400 copies on red vinyl. Rumors say that there are still about 400 copies (without covers) rotting in a cellar.

In 1986 Olav left the band and SCAPEGOATS were history. Kalle and Ulf continued as GO AHEAD ... but that´s a different story.
